CHAPTER FIVE - Roommates
Allie awoke with a start. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the darkness of the room, but as the objects around her began to take shape, she remembered where she was. She wondered what time it was, and, hearing voices, she made her way out of the bedroom.
The anger and confusion in the voices she heard came across loud and clear. Peeking around the corner, she saw Dominick, Raven, and a girl she didn't know deep in conversation.
"...don't even know who she is, Dom," the girl was saying.
"Come on, you think she's dangerous?" Dominick replied with a snort.
"I don't know," said Raven, "but neither do you. There's...there's something different about her."
Enough was enough. Allie stepped boldly out into the room. Dominick's head turned in her direction instantly. She was surprised by the look on his face. Allie expected a look of frustration, anger, or worse...the look of distrust her family gave her that awful day she left home. None of those emotions came across. Allie merely saw sadness, and love.
Dominick looked away as the girl stood to leave the table. "Your decision, Dom," she said. The girl gave Allie a dirty look as she breezed past her and out the front door.
"Come on, Allie," said Dominick with a sigh. "We've got to talk."
