The whole world seemed to be crashing down on Eliza. Darryl had run off, she had let her friendship with Misss Emmy lag, there was never enough money...she was scared and overwhelmed. She needed to feel strong again -- strong and in control. There was only one thing she could think of to do.

She needed a haircut.

As the pieces of hair fell into the sink, Eliza felt the weight begin to lift. She realized the strength she had been feeling these past few months was merely a facade, and inside she was filled with pain. Bit by bit, the hair fell into the sink, and Eliza's pain grew. The tears began to pour from her, and this time Eliza did not hold back. This time she let them fall, until the tears came in a steady stream down her lovely face.

When the tears subsided, Eliza felt exhausted, yet strangely enough, she also felt stronger than she had in a long time. There were things to deal with now. She picked up the phone and dialed Miss Emmy's number.

Miss Emmy was glad to hear from Eliza, and came right over. She also brought a friend, Tosha. Seeing the pain on Eliza's face, Emmy enveloped her in a great big hug. Eliza melted into the hug, and allowed herself to feel the warm comfort.

"I've messed everything up, Miss Emmy," Eliza said.

"How so dear?"

"Darryl's run off, I can't pay my bills, I'm tired all the time..."

"Oh, Eliza, that's all a part of growing up and starting a family. Darryl will be back -- he loves you, dear. As for bills, well...you keep at it, and the money will come." said Emmy.

"Yes, but there was this man...and he had a gun. Well, it was more like a ray gun...but it was still a gun, and..." Eliza began.

"What?" asked Emmy, squinting her eyes in disbelief.

"You don't believe me," said Eliza. "Of all people, I thought you would believe me."

"Oh, I believe you dear," said Emmy. "But I'm afraid the situation is more dire than I thought. Let's go inside."

Once inside, Emmy questioned Eliza on the recent happenings in her life. Eliza told her of the strange doctor-looking man whom she had found with Darryl, of the repo man's ray gun, and of all the stresses and strains of being a new mother. Emmy looked around -- at the dead money trees, the bare floors and walls, and the bathroom filled with weeds.

"Eliza," Emmy said, "you need some money."

"I know, Emmy, but like I told you, I'm too stressed all the time to keep the money trees healthy. They keep dying on me."

"Sometimes, Eliza, even wise women need to go to the bank."

Emmy picked up the phone and rapidly dialed a number. After a brief conversation, kaching kaching, Eliza had $2000 simoleans in her hands. As Eliza stood there stunned and speechless, but Emmy only smiled and headed for the door. As she was holding the door open to leave, she paused, and turned back toward Eliza.

"Eliza?" said Emmy. "We have much work to do yet, you and I. I know life is hard, and gets overwhelming, but you need to make the effort to stay in touch. Your female friendships are so important. They are what bouy you in the difficult times. Be well, Eliza, and spend that money wisely."

"I will, Miss Emmy."
